Duties of Counselor

The Atchison County Counselor gives advice upon all legal questions that arise and assists the board on all legal matters referred to the County Counselor.  He commences, prosecutes or defends all civil suits or actions in which the county is interested in and represents the county generally in matters of civil law. He draws all contracts and other papers required by the Board of County Commissioners and furnishes to the board opinions in writing upon of legal matters pending to the board.  He also performs all the duties in civil matters that otherwise required by law of the County Attorney except for juvenile matters.
