Quarterly Safety Committee Meeting



April 20th 2017



The Atchison County Safety Committee met on Thursday, March 16th, 2017 in the County Commission Room.  Those members in attendance were: Melissa Smith, Human Resources; Steve Noyes, Community Corrections; Lydia Ackmann, EMS; and Debbie Thompson, Appraiser, Wes Lanter, EM/County IT; Seth Howard, Road & Bridge; Staci Joice, Solid Waste; Shelly Nelson, Community Corrections; Kim Pruett, Joint Communications; Jamie Madison, Human Resources; Shelley Campbell, Register of Deeds; Michelle Phillips, County Clerk; Peggy House, Senior Village; Joe Bowen, Maintenance; and Melissa Crane, Appraiser. Kalee Vanderweide, County Clerk Office; Tammy Weir, Register of Deeds, Dirk Saragusa, Sheriff Office; Corey Scott, EMS.



Minutes were recorded by Kim Pruett, Secretary.



Seth Howard, Chairperson, called the meeting to order.



OLD BUSINESS:



Minutes of March 16th, 2017 Meeting



Wes Lanter motioned to approve the minutes with no additions and/or corrections.  Seconded by Peggy House.



Follow-up Accident/Incident Reports –  All follow up incidents have been cleared.





NEW BUSINESS:



Accident/Incident Reports/Near Miss Reports





Melissa Crane, Appraiser Office, reported an incident when an employee stepped on some kind of a thorn or bush needle that penetrated her shoe, sock and foot.  No follow up needed, employee was able to remove the thorns herself.



Quarterly Trainings



County Wide – Lydia Ackmann, EMS, will be scheduling a First Aide class for 3rd quarter training sometime between July & September.  Kim Pruett, Secretary, will be contacting Kerit to schedule a lifting ergonomics class for 4th quarter.



Seth Howard, Corey Scott and Kalee Vanderweide will be performing facility inspections in April and May, dates to be determined.















OPEN DISCUSSION



Safety Suggestion Box – We received two Safety Suggestions this month.



1)      A suggestion to put a cross walk on the east side of the building going to the employee parking lot.



2)     A suggestion about changing the Treasurer’s Office door so that it swings out into the hall instead of swinging in towards the desk. 



Both suggestions were discussed and Seth Howard and Joe Bowen will be doing follow up on these suggestions.





**The next meeting has been set for Thursday, May 18th, 2017.  There being no further business Dirk Saragusa motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Corey Scott.
