Follow-up Accident/Incident Reports

Peggy House stated that the Senior Village employee who hurt her shoulder in March 2015 has had surgery; however, cannot return to work until after physical therapy.  This person no longer works for the county.

Another Senior Village employee who injured her elbow after tripping over a call light cord remains on light duty.  Employee has recently retired from the county.

Accident/Incident Reports

A Road & Bridge part-time summer laborer was cutting trees and a rash appeared the next day on both arms and her side.  No work was missed after going to Business Health.

Road & Bridge also had two separate incidents reported.  One employee was lifting a log to free a chainsaw and felt like he had strained his lower back.  Another employee bent down to work on a sign and felt his knee pop while standing up.

Melissa informed the board that Joe Bowen discussed the courthouse doors on the north side of the courthouse with the commissioners and they wanted him to check with the state to make sure there wasn’t anything that they required before making a decision on making them automatic openers.  Joe stated that he would let the board know what he found out at the next safety committee meeting.  Melissa received notice that KCAMP has accepted this as a qualified purchase and that we can utilize the Risk Avoidance Grant funds in the amount of $2,000; however, for department heads to be thinking of what they may need or want if we are not able to install the automatic operator on the courthouse doors.

Facility Inspections responses are due to Melissa by Monday, August 15th, 2016.  The annual inspections will be completed with board members and the KERIT Representative, Travis Bennett, on Thursday, August 25th, 2016.

Melissa stated that she contacted Michelle Orr, Cintas First Aid & Safety Representative, and she was told that there were no hidden fees (i.e. a minimum and/or a contract requirement).  She will forward an email to departments to see who would like a first aid cabinet within their building and get them ordered.  She reminded department heads that the Safety Committee will purchase the cabinets; however, the restocking of items and service fee would be the responsibility of each department.

There will be no August meeting due to several board members attending the CIC Conference that week.  Melissa will send out a reminder closer to that time.

The next meeting has been set for Thursday, September 15th, 2016.  There being no further business Jamie Madison motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Shelly Nelson.
