Early History
The original building, Atchison County Nursing Home, was built in 1961 as a successor to the Atchison County Poor Farm. It was expanded in 1974 and again in 1993. Portions of the building were gutted and rebuilt in 1996. With the completion of the remodeling the capacity was increased to 60 residents. The majority of the rooms are double occupancy but upon completion of the remodeling 18 private rooms were made available.

Public and recreational areas have been expanded to accommodate various family, church, and facility gatherings. A large living room with a fireplace and tastefully decorated furnishings is a gathering place for large and small groups. A ‘kitchen’ area is used daily by the residents and is often a focal point for organized and informal family get-togethers. A lovely chapel with stained glass windows was added as a peaceful retreat and place to hold church services, mass and devotions.

Atchison Senior Village continually updates the community to create a home-like environment where Atchison County residents can feel comfortable. The look, the feel, the atmosphere is different from almost any nursing home you've seen. From the moment you walk in the front door, you'll notice the difference.
