Letters of interest for vacated Walnut Township Trustee position requested.
The Board of Atchison County Commissioners are seeking letters of interest from those interested in serving as the Township Trustee of the Walnut Township Board. Per K.S.A. 80-301 the Township Trustee shall partake in monthly meetings, and special meetings when needed, divide the township into road districts, ensure all moneys belonging to the township are properly spent for road or other purposes, provide for the care and management of all property, real and personal, belonging to the township, and partake in monthly meetings.
There are three positions on the Walnut Township Board: Trustee, Treasurer, and Clerk. Each office is an elected position serving four (4) year terms with elections in alternating even years. All township officers appointed to fill vacancies shall hold their office for the remainder of the unexpired term, and until their successors are elected and qualified. This position will be on the ballot in November 2024, with the new term beginning January 13, 2025. Each Board member must be a qualified elector, and a resident of Walnut Township in Atchison County, Kansas.
Those interested in serving should send a letter of interest to Michelle Phillips, Atchison County Clerk, 423 North 5th Street, Atchison, Kansas 66002. Letters will be accepted by mail, email to email@example.com, or by depositing in the drop box located outside the north doors of the courthouse. Deadline for submission of the letters of interest will be Friday, August 11, 2023, at 5:00 pm. The Commission will consider the letters during their regular meeting set for August 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Emergency Operations Center at 10443 US Hwy 59, Atchison, KS.
