Enclosed you will find information from the National Weather Service regarding Severe Weather Awareness Week. As severe weather season approaches, I urge you to review the enclosed information as well as participate in the tornado safety drill on Tuesday, March 7th at 10:00 am. The drill is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week—which is March 6-10, 2023—and is an opportunity to practice your facility’s severe weather plan. As part of our county’s hazardous weather plan, the outdoor warning system sirens are tested the first Wednesday of each month (March-November) at 10 am.
A vital part of the warning and alert system is a NOAA weather radio in homes and businesses. Atchison County Emergency Management has Midland weather radios available for $30 at our office at 10443 US HWY 59, Atchison. Please contact us for information in regard to purchasing and programming the radios for local weather alerts.
In addition, you can receive weather warning alerts via phone calls, texts and/or emails through CodeRED, an emergency alert service provided through Atchison County and the City of Atchison. To find out more about CodeRED or to register your home and/or business, go to our website at www.atchisoncountyks.org and click on the CodeRED link in the center of the page.
